Customize: Shredded Chicken

The way we’ve designed our meals, you can personalize, customize, and tweak what we deliver and have endless possibilities for how you serve it to your family. If you’d like to make dinner time just a little more adventurous but you’re stumped on where to begin, we’re here for you. Here’s our beginner’s guide to customizing your Beehive Meals.

What we include in our freezer meals

When your meals are delivered to your doorstep, you can expect to find ten delicious “bases” for meals. Each vacuum sealed package includes a protein, sauces, spices, and sometimes a few veggies. Now all you need to do is follow the basic heating and cooking instructions on the package to get your meal started. Once your base is hot and ready, you can begin to tweak and refine it to make it your own.

Ways to customize your Beehive Meals

We always provide a serving suggestion on each meal bag, and you’re absolutely welcome to follow that every time. But if you’d like a little more variety, there’s a lot you can do. We actually have a whole section of our website dedicated to providing additional serving suggestionsWhen you’re considering how to present and deliver your meals to your family, keep these tips in mind:

  1. What’s your vehicle? For most proteins, you’ll want to think about how it’s delivered to your mouth. Is it over rice? In a tortilla? In a sandwich? Most often, it’s a type of carb: bread, pasta, rice, etc., but think of it as the “vehicle” that gets the protein in your body. When you look at your meal, say BBQ chicken, think about how you want to eat it. Over rice? Just the right amount in a roll as a sandwich? Or maybe you’ll sprinkle it on a pizza crust for southwestern pizza. Changing up the way you eat your meals is the easiest way to customize your dinners, and it feels like a brand new experience every time.
  2. What are your sides? Along with the carb, what do you want next to your meal? Maybe it’s a green salad, a serving of seasonal veggies, or a bowl of berries. Pairing flavors together is what makes dinner time an adventure, so go out of your comfort zone once in a while. Choose that jicama salad you’ve always wanted to try or roast your potatoes instead of baking them.
  3. What toppings could you add? Fresh veggies or a sprinkle of cheese are always nice to add to your meals. But try something new once in a while: add peaches over chicken or maybe slices of mango with your sweet pork.
  4. Use your leftovers. We highly recommend ordering up a meal size so you have leftovers. When you’re planning your dinner menu for the week, use the same meal twice in two different ways! Maybe you’ll have Balsamic Chicken pasta one night, and the next use the leftover chicken for a delicious berry salad. Serve Meatball Marinara over spaghetti noodles on Tuesday, and then meatball sandwiches on Wednesday. It’s a great way to save money and get variety.
  5. Make your menu ahead of time. The whole point of Beehive Meals is to save you time  and stress so you can enjoy mealtime with your family. And while you can definitely throw a meal in the slow cooker at the last minute before you head out for work or school drop off in the morning, we’ve found planning ahead means you can have more variety and customization options. Take a few minutes at the beginning of the week to map out your menu, or a few more minutes to plan the whole month, and you can make sure you have the right side ingredients and toppings to give variety to your palette.
